There is a movement in the United States to unionize Walmart. Everyone seems to feel they make too much money. Walmart, Sears, Home Depot, Target, Lowes, Penny's, and every other big box store runs on the same business model, minimum wage, whatever it may be. Most of these firms, if the employees are so willing, have an upward mobility to management, where the pay is much better, if not superb. I.E., if you want a six figure salary, become a manager for Sam's. So, what would happen if Walmart was forced to unionize. It is simple. The business model would no longer work. In all likelihood, the stores would start closing. If they tried to remain open, they would be forced to raise prices on all the consumer goods and drive away customers. The numbers would not match. It is not a threat, just economics. If you are going to force Walmart to unionize, then all big box stores will have to follow suit. People will be laid off and full time positions will convert to part-timers. Threatening to unionize Walmart may jeopardize 1.4 million jobs. It may also threaten other enterprises as well. Of course, the people who want to force this issue through the law don't own businesses. They actually are intent on destroying them. Weird. In their mindless pursuit of their definition of "what is right" they actually destroy the target. Game over. But, if you recall your history, that is what communism/socialism is all about. Leveling the so-called playing field where everybody is equal. Personally, I feel companies like Walmart are doing a social service. They are employing people who normally would qualify for welfare. Keeping 1.4 million people off the streets is certainly better than putting them there! There is one problem with Walmart, they are too good at selling stuff! Oh, try selling Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, the union idea! And that's the way I see it, November 28th, 2014.
I have to admit it, until a few months ago, the word Ferguson meant a tractor. Today, the word represents a lot more. Over the last week, as the world watched the pre-Thanksgiving riots in Ferguson, Missouri, we are left with quite a few questions. I won't get into the minutiae of the ins-and-outs of the case, rest assured, you can switch on the T.V. and get that from the insatiable media hyperbole. Rather, I would like to ask some other questions. Why is the black community (a minority) so violent and others are not? Why is Chicago, Detroit, and Washington D.C. on fire? Why are so many young children, black, white, hispanic, whatever, out of work? My premise is the same. Ferguson is not about racism. It is not about white cops. It is not about young black teenagers smoking dope. It is not about riots. It is not about anything the media shows you on the networks. The real problem, wait for it, is...poverty and unemployment. It is about a failed economic structure. It is about mom and dad both having to work while the kids try to raise themselves. It cuts across all classes, all races, and economic stratas. I now have two relatives, women, trying to raise babies by themselves. They are white. One has a job, one is on welfare. Not good. Our society is trying to dictate to us that it is O.K. to be gay, O.K. to have single parent households, O.K. to be poor, O.K. to smoke dope and eat THC laden edibles, O.K. to be disenfranchised. Hey, all it takes is a stiff wind to knock you off your feet. Rodney King, Watts, Ferguson, etc. are the symptoms, not the disease. If all those unemployed black youths who rioted in Ferguson had a job, a good job, an education, maybe they would be too busy to riot! I said the same thing three years ago when I analyzed Cairo. How come all those tens of thousands of Egyptians were rioting? The answer was simple, they were unemployed with nothing better to do. The United States had better start taking care of its own and start doing it now. If not, Ferguson will just represent the future, a future that nobody really wants. That's how I see it, today, November 28th, 2014.
Secretary of Defense: Gates, Panetta, and Hagel all found themselves in the unenviable position of working for Barack Obama. They all have one thing in common, they could not stand the guy! Two of them quit, one got fired. So, the United States is left leaderless once again. The latest talk on the airwaves concerns a woman. Hey, maybe a woman can get along with this President? Maybe not. Barack wants a yes man...or woman. Problem is that most people who qualify for this job are pretty smart and they are not very good at taking orders from a pot smoking, cocaine snorting, anti-military, in-experienced hippie from the streets of Honolulu. At this point, whoever decides to take on the burden of the Secretary of Defense, it will be almost an impossible job. The White House has already set the job description as "puppeteer." Meanwhile, the bad-guys are at full throttle! ISIS, Russia, China, Al-Qaeda, Boko-Haram, Assad, Iran, etc. all know that they have just been given clearance, once again, to do their dirty work. Either the U.S. gets its together or we should just pull out of the world altogether. You can not, I repeat, can not act like an imbecile in the arena of world politics. It does not work that way. Chaos brings more chaos. I hope Barack is happy this morning as he watches the town of Ferguson burn. But that is a domestic issue, a topic for another article. That's how I see it, today, November 25th, 2014.
Not my favorite topic. Hard to ignore when you have career racists trying to kill people and destroy an entire town, Ferguson, Missouri. How sad. In light of history, we still have cowards, both black and white, who, for their own selfish purposes, want to destroy all that is good about America. Putting a grand jury on notice circumvents the law. Regardless of the decision, they should not be put under any public pressure to render a verdict. Just for anybody reading this, the present crisis in Ferguson is NOT about racism. It is about the failure of the black community to move itself forward. Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Adam West, Mia Love, and even, yes...yes, Barak Obama ALL got it. What did they get? They got the simple fact that slavery was not their problem. They became leaders in a new world and are influencing our society today. I can guarantee you that none of them will be protesting, rioting, or trying to kill somebody tonight. America, the United States, has always been and always will be a nation of different races. The two most prominent at present is black and white. Not so for the future. Make way for the Hispanics! But that is another story. What I would like to see is a maturity of the American dialogue so we can keep moving forward. By the way, if, and it is a big IF, the United States was still a racist stronghold then why, a big WHY, would the American public elect a black person to be President of the United States? Dumb question, I guess.
Here is another problem. 22 black Americans are killed each day in the United States. 93 percent of them are killed by another black person. Where is the outrage? Why is this happening? Do you really care or do you still want to hide your head in the sand and avoid the real problem? Not that is matters now, but I would of voted for Colin Powell had he choose to run for President. He, in my opinion, if you want to be racist, would of been the best black man for the job! That's how I see it, today, November 24th, 2014.
The United States has always been a land of immigrants. It is also a land of the law. No matter how you slice or dice it, U.S. immigration policy is a failure. This is partly due to our broken congressional system. It is also because other societies around us are literally falling apart. Lets face it, if I were a Mexican and my fellow college students (43 of them) were murdered at a peaceful protest, I would leave too! As far as I am concerned, the debate is over. If you are in the U.S. illegally, you should go down immediately and sign up under a guest worker program. Get your new immigrant social security number and be given no aid until you work here for a minimum of five years. If you are a minor, it doesn't apply. Second. All illegal immigrants must serve two years in the U.S. military. Period. Third, if you choose not to sign up you get to stay here in our new "guest worker" prison system where you will build our new roads and bridges for free! So play by the rules, or else. Enough is enough.
Somewhere in my lineage are immigrants, some were native American. I can't tell you whether or not they played by the rules. When I was growing up I was told my step-father was Puerto Rican, come to find out, he was of Cuban lineage. Of course, when he was growing up it wasn't a good thing to be labeled Cuban. He even changed his last name to avoid prejudice. He and his brother became successful fighter pilots followed by corporate and government careers. The beame Americans, second generation. Both of them earned my respect.
The simple fact is this. Laws are laws. Without laws, society falls apart. If you don't like any of this just move to Mexico and pray the cartel does not knock on your door. If you stay, obey the law. That's how I see it, today, November 21st, 2014.
Jerusalem. Home of three major religions. Today, November 18th, four rabbis were murdered while praying in a Synagogue. One police officer who came to the rescue was also killed. 5 dead, 8 more wounded. As I write this column, Palestinians are dancing in the streets and handing out candy! These are the same people who danced and ate candy after 9/11. Are you happy? How does that make you feel? Would you want to sit down and break bread with them? How about giving them their own state? As we have seen, after Israel gave the entire Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority, Iran backed Hamas took it over and turned the entire region into a terrorist stronghold. Wow, that was a great outcome. Hamas is still licking it wounds after the July bombardment but they sacrificed the Gaza Strip to attain their goals. Whatever the reasons, whatever side you choose to be on, you have to ask yourself some basic questions. Why create another Arab state when half of them are self-imploding as we speak? Muslim/Islamic dictatorships slash theocracies are not stable. Creating more chaos will not bring less chaos. Only until all the Islamic countries sign peace treaties with Israel will all this insanity end. Yep, peace treaties. Whatever their grievances, so what? Sign a peace deal! Egypt did. Jordan did. Why not Saudi Arabia? What are they afraid of? As the protagonist of Dune said, "Fear is the mind killer." Fear of change is holding them back. Fear of dropping centuries of outdated philosophies. Fear of ignorance. Fear of admitting that they might be wrong. Fear of what peace might bring. Get past the fear. That's the way I see it, November 18th, 2014.
This is what the future will look like if Iran is allowed to possess nuclear weapons. They will either nuke Israel or get nuked themselves. Negotiating with an intolerant religious regime is not the same as MAD (mutual assured destruction) which kept the U.S. and the Soviets from using their weapons against each other. The religious overtones which completely define the Iranian government simply can not be trusted. Not when they can put a finger on a button. Just like North Korea, negotiating is completely and utterly useless. It only serves as a tool for the Iranians to continue nuclear weapons development. Attaining nuclear weapons for Iran is a national policy. It is also a form of lunacy and stupidity. Based on the history of Israel and the Jewish people, there is probably no argument that can be presented to prevent them from defending themselves. Hamas is in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iranian Republican Guards in Syria are all backed by the government in Tehran. Tehran has repeatedly and publicly called for the complete destruction of Israel. Unfortunately, if you take logic to its final conclusion, Israel will be left with a decision hit Iran with a pre-emptive strike. It will not be a military action to slow the Iranians down, it will be one to stop them completely. In other words, a major strike. Everybody wants cool heads to prevail, but under the present circumstances it may already be too late. The wheels are in motion and once again, the United States and Europe have failed to bring about an acceptable outcome. Forcing the Israelis to strike is a poor option, but maybe the only one left. What if behind the closed doors in Brussels and Washington this is exactly what they want! Crazy! That's how I see it, today, November 18th, 2014.
7.125 BILLION. Wow! That's a lot of people! When I was born, 1955, it was only 2.7 billion. Jimmy Crickets! So, what does that mean? For you, for me? Well, there is more money on the planet. There is more competition. There is more chaos. There is more crime. There is more starvation. There are bigger armies. There are more countries. There are more democratic nations. There are more wars. There are more cars and trucks. There are more potatoes. There are more tomatoes. There are more pets. There are more "to go" restaurants. There are more boats and airplanes. There are more arguments. There is more laughter. There are more marriages and divorces. There are more Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and Atheists. There is more food. There are more happy people. There are more sad people. The are more winners and losers. There are more people who believe in God and more who don't. There is more stupidity. There is more wonder. There is more technology. There is more knowledge. There is more enlightenment. There is more darkness. There are more chances. There are more mistakes. There is more freedom. There is less freedom.
Whether you want to call human existence and advancement or not is probably a matter of opinion. However, life for us, today, certainly is a lot different than it used to be. That's the way I see it, today, November 16th, 2014.
Peter Kassig, an ex U.S. Army Ranger who fought in Iraq, was beheaded by ISIS yesterday. His beheading posted on the internet for all to watch. I haven't, and won't. He was given an honorable discharge and had moved to Beirut to set up a charity and help those in need in the Middle East. Another beheading. Another death. Another challenge to America and the West. ISIS is becoming more embolden with every move. Every person they kill, every town they take, every atrocity they commit, they envision themselves and their new self-declared Caliphate of true Islam legitimate. Here, in simple terms, is their gross miscalculation. Every move they take only emboldens the other side. If you thought that we were a problem before, wait until we return. We may even have to re-write our war manual and take "no prisoners." It really is beyond my imagination that they can not grasp this. What if we decide to use our "tactical nukes" on the battle field? What if we decide that Tehran and Mecca should be taken off the planet? What if we all wake up one day and find a 9/11 was taken to "them." Sounds crazy, doesn't it? Maybe yes, maybe no. While the "liberal media" feels it still can control the "swelling anger" it is starting to lose its grasp and control. There is only one, and one action only that can save Islam. Islam must "stand up" and fight with all their strengths and commitment against the "radicals." ...and they must win. Failure to do so will result in a permanent vision that Islam is bad and evil. Every Islamic country needs to "speak loud" and carry a very "big stick" and state in no uncertain terms that they are not what ISIS represents. Failure to refute ISIS and others like it will tarnish and define this 1300 year old religion forever. It will also stoke the fire of war which may not be extinguished for years to come. A war where Russia, China, Europe, the U.S., Africa, and Asia decide enough is enough. My condolences to the Kassig family. Your son was a good man and his death was not in vain. That's how I see it today, November 16th, 2014.
Mexico. What can you say? Her big brother up north continues to ignore reality. A failed state? Narco-terrorism? Civil war? I personally could write an entire novel on the cartels of Juarez and the death of thousands. However, the problem is much more than that. As the United States stands on on brink of legalizing 30 million illegals, 90% or more who are Mexican, again, the real questions are not being asked. With a population of 122 million, one third of the U.S., Mexico has completely lost its way. Corruption, drugs, money, and murders rule the day. I am writing today because something needs to be done. Mexico, the U.S., the world can not let this great country fall into the abyss. Everyone needs to take notice and bring about change. Last month, evidently, the mayor of a small town and his wife decided to murder 43 college students. They hired the drug lords who did the bidding. They killed all of them and proceeded to burn the bodies. This is not the first mass killing and certainly won't be the last. Yes, the mayor has been arrested, and the people of Mexico are starting to stand up. But after several decades of death and maim will it be enough? Probably not, not without help. Here is another question, while the Arab/Muslim dominated United Nations squawks about Israel they never mention Mexico. Why is that? Is it because Mexico is third world? Is is because it is Catholic? Or is it because it does not fit into the other agenda. We live in troubling times. Chaos is starting to reign. If we don't start paying attention we will wake up
and find evil knocking on the front door. That's how I see it today, November 15th, 2014.
